Report on Building capacity in Chad 2020
Introduction
Chad National Curriculum Center communicated to ACA requesting for capacity building for their curriculum and book development experts. Based on ACA constitution, ACA has the responsibilities to assist member countries to strengthen their National Curriculum Centres through international best practices. It equally has the responsibility to promote production and exchange of curriculum materials among Curriculum Development Centres across the continent among other responsibilities. Based on her communication, Chad was asked to develop a concept paper to allow ACA to get to understand what exactly the problem was.
Problem
It was realized that the experts in charge of curricula and textbooks have a gap in developing and aligning text books and curricula besides having inadequate ICT skills. This was affirmed through a survey conducted in Chad by the directors of the department of curriculum, the department of training and the department of the book-in January 2020. The survey report further revealed that there is a need to reinforce the French, Arabic and English languages in order to narrow the gap. Based on the above information, Chad found it prudent to build capacity of her curriculum experts in development of curriculum, ICT skills and aligning textbooks and curriculum to bridge the gap.
African Curriculum Association (ACA) being the coordinator of CESA curriculum cluster with the responsibility to ensure that the quality of education improves in all African member countries was identified to carry out capacity building in Chad. It is believed that building the capacity of the curriculum experts will contribute to the improvement of the Chadian curriculum and subsequently the education in that country , thus leading to the development of the entire country.
